Below is our current schedule of classes. The classes are arranged by topic, so scroll down to
the bottom to see everything that we have to offer.
Most classes list materials and suggested skills. Materials should be purchased prior to the
start time of the class, unless otherwise noted. If you aren't sure what to bring, call us.
To register, please visit the shop or call 301-652-8688. Full payment or credit card number is
required to reserve a space in the class or classes of your choice. NO REFUNDS will be made
for cancellations within one week of class. There is a $25 rescheduling or cancellation fee.

TECHNIQUE CLASSES Learn new techniques to use on your projects. Pick which topics you want to learn or take the whole series. Some classes have homework prior to class. Some classes make a specific project. Please check when registering.
Prerequisite for all classes: cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off.

Fixing mistakes
Learn how to fix your mistakes without having to start over. Learn how to pick up dropped
stitches, fix twisted stitches, and more in order to better enjoy your knitting!
BRING: a 4”x 4” stockinette swatch (worsted weight, light color, ‘plain’ yarn preferred) still
on the needles, and an appropriate size crochet hook.
One 1 ½ hour class. Fee $35

Finishing Techniques
Don’t let sweater pieces languish in your WIP basket. Learn to finish your work like a pro.
Materials: A sweater that is ready to be finished or two 4"x4" stockinette swatches, a crochet
hook and a yarn needle.
One 2-hour session. Fee $40

Mitten Basics
Mittens are a great portable project, and a good next step for rookie knitters. Learn to knit in
the round on double-pointed needles and make a thumb gusset.
Two 2-hour sessions. Fee $65
Thursday, Feb. 16 and 23 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Bring any knitting or crochet project to work on, or we’ll help you pick one. It’s a great way to
take on a challenging project you're not confident doing alone and also a fun way to meet
others who share a passion for knitting. Prerequisites: cast on, knit, purl.
Six 2-hour sessions. Fee $80

Beginning Crochet
Learn crochet basics: chain, single crochet, double crochet, increase and decrease. Plus,
learn to read a crochet pattern and make a granny square. Materials: Worsted-weight yarn
in two or three light colors and a size H or I crochet hook.
Two 2-hour sessions. Fee $65 (includes how-to book)

Private lessons in knitting and crochet are scheduled with a member of our friendly, expert staff at your convenience. Please call the shop to be matched with an appropriate instructor according to your schedule.
Fees $35 an hour, or bring a friend (or two!), and pay $25 per person per hour.

Beginning Knitting for Kids
The same knitting basics as our regular Beginning Knitting class, but for ages 8 to 14.
(Parents please note: To provide your kids with the best experience possible, we
recommend leaving your kids with us to learn, and bond with the instructors and other kids)
Materials: A ball of worsted-weight yarn in a light color, and size 8 or 9 knitting needles.
Two 90-minute sessions. Fee $60 (includes how-to book)

Sock Fundamentals - Double Pointed Needles
You can knit socks! Learn to knit in the round, use of double pointed needles, turn a heel,

Fair Isle Hat
Conquer stranded colorwork! This hat will take you through the steps of working fair isle and
give you confidence to take on larger projects.

Learn the colorwork techniques to knit this gorgeous pair of fingerless mitts. Materials:

Quick Cowls
You'll learn the MOBIUS CAST ON, working with various gauges, knitting in the round, as you
whip up one of the hottest winter accessories around! Materials: Approximately 100 yards of
bulky or chunky weight yarn, ( with appropriate needles i.e. 13's 29" or 15's 32" circular
needles. Two 2-hour sessions. Fee $65

Are you ready to add a new skill to your knitting repertoire? You'll learn to knit lace, read a
simple chart, use stitch markers, make stretchy bind-offs, and block your work.
You should be able to knit, purl, increase, and decrease. Materials: 412 yards of fingering yarn
stitch markers, size 3 circular needle, 24" or longer

MY FIRST SWEATER
Learn to knit your first sweater. Learn to check your gauge, follow a pattern, increase,
decrease, pick up stitches, make buttonholes, and seam your sweater. We will pick out
material during the first class. Bring size 6, 7, 8 and 9 needles if you already own them, but if
you don’t, do not buy them before class.

Have trouble with double points and can't quite "get" magic loop, learn the miracle of small
items in the round using 2 long circular needles Materials: Sock yarn and (2) circular
needles in the appropriate size for your yarn.

Great American Afghan KNIT ALONG
Challenge yourself and learn lots of new knitting patterns, as you work on individual squares
to create a one of a kind classic Aran Afghan. Specific directions and support are provided
during each monthly session.
One 2-hour session. Fee: cost of materials only
