Below is our current schedule of classes.  The classes are arranged by topic, so scroll down to
the bottom to see everything that we have to offer.  

Most classes list materials and suggested skills.  Materials should be purchased prior to the
start time of the class, unless otherwise noted.  If you aren't sure what to bring, call us.

To register, please visit the shop or call 301-652-8688.  Full payment or credit card number is
required to reserve a space in the class or classes of your choice.  
NO REFUNDS will be made
for cancellations within one week of class.  There is a
$25 rescheduling or cancellation fee.

BEGINNER  CLASSES
TECHNIQUE CLASSES
Learn new techniques to use on your projects.  Pick which topics you want to learn or take the
whole series.  Some classes have homework prior to class.  Some classes make a specific
project.  Please check when registering.

Prerequisite for all classes: cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off.  
Fixing mistakes
Learn how to fix your mistakes without having to start over. Learn how to pick up dropped
stitches, fix twisted stitches, and more in order to better your knitting.  
BRING: a 4”x  4” stockinette swatch (worsted weight, light color, ‘plain’ yarn preferred) still on
the needles, and an appropriate size crochet hook.
One 1 ½ hour class.

Finishing Techniques
Don’t let sweater pieces languish in your WIP basket. Learn to finish your work like a pro.
Materials: A sweater that is ready to be finished or two 4"x4" stockinette swatches, a crochet
hook and a yarn needle.
One 2-hour session.

Mitten Basics                                                              **PROJECT CLASS
Mittens are a great portable project, and a good next step for rookie knitters. Learn to knit in
the round on double-pointed needles and make a thumb gusset.
Two 2-hour sessions.

KNITTING GROUPS
Bring any knitting or crochet project to work on, or we’ll help you pick one. It’s a great way to
take on a challenging project you're not confident doing alone and also a fun way to meet
others who share a passion for knitting. Prerequisites: cast on, knit, purl.
Six 2-hour sessions.  
Fee $80

Beginning Crochet
Learn crochet basics: chain, single crochet, double crochet, increase and decrease. Plus,
learn to read a crochet pattern and make a granny square. Materials: Worsted-weight yarn in
two or three light colors and a size H or I crochet hook.

Fee $65 (includes how-to book)

Private lessons in knitting and crochet are scheduled with a member of our friendly, expert
staff at your convenience. Please call the shop to be matched with an appropriate instructor
according to your schedule.

Fees  $35 an hour, or bring a friend (or two!), and pay $25 per person per hour.
Baby and Child Hats                                                  **PROJECT CLASS
Little heads need little hats! You’ll start by designing your own hat, and then learn to knit in the
round on circular and double-pointed needles. Learn embellishment techniques like i-cord,
pompoms, three-needle bindoff, crochet and embroidery to make your hat one of a kind.
Materials: worsted-weight yarn in several colors, size 7 16-inch circulars and double-pointed
needles, yarn needle, size G or H crochet hook (optional).
Two 2-hour sessions.

Beginning Knitting for Kids
The same knitting basics as our regular Beginning Knitting class, but for ages 8 to 14.

Mobius Cowl                                                               **PROJECT CLASS
Cowls are hot right now, and they’re great fun to knit. Take a step beyond simple scarves with

Bored with the basics? Our one-session technique workshops are just the thing to jump start

"Owly" Mittens                                                            **PROJECT CLASS
Owls are all the rage, and these sweet mittens combine cabling with basic mitten skills. Learn
to knit in the round on double-pointed needles (or try Magic Loop), and master basic

Brushed Suri Mittens                                                             **PROJECT CLASS
You won’t be able to stop petting these mitts! They’re super-soft, and the pattern makes a
great introduction to knitting fingerless mitts. Learn to knit in the round on double-pointed
needles, create a thumb gusset and block your mitts. Materials: size 5 double-pointed needles

Magic Loop Socks                                                     **PROJECT CLASS
Hate working with double-pointed needles but want to knit socks? Learn to knit two socks at a
time from the top down using one circular needle and the Magic Loop technique. Materials:
Sock yarn and 47-inch circular needles in size 1, 2 or 3.
Three 1½-hour sessions.

My First Sweater (child size)                                     **PROJECT CLASS
Learn to knit an easy child's cardigan. Learn to check your gauge, follow a pattern, increase,
decrease, pick up stitches, make buttonholes, and seam your sweater. We will pick out
material during the first class. Bring size 6, 7, 8 and 9 needles if you already own them, but if
you don’t, do not buy them before class.
Four 2-hour sessions.
